Roll Brim Tunisian Toque

This is a super simple-to-stitch hat, using the beginner Tunisian crochet techniques of Tunisian Simple Stitch in one- and two-colors, and Tunisian Knit Stitch. It’s crocheted flat, then sewn up along one seam, and is a great use of partial skeins of worsted weight yarn you might have in your stash.

It also makes great use of the rolled brim. A lot of folks complain that they can’t get their Tunisian to lay flat at the beginning, so why not make that roll an integral part of the design!

Tunisian crochet hook size J/10/6.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge:

12 sts x 12 rows = 4”/10cm in TSS

Notes:

Remember all Tunisian rows have two parts – the forward pass in which you put loops on the hook, and the return pass in which you take loops off the hook.

Special Stitches:

In this patterns, all return passes use the standard return, which is: Yo, draw through one loop on hook, *yo, draw through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * across until only 1 loop remains on your hook. Only Forward passes are written out.

TSS – Tunisian Simple Stitch – on the forward pass, insert hook right to left (if you are right handed, left to right if you are left handed) through the vertical bar on front of work, yo, draw through bar, leave loop on needle. Use Standard Return for all return passes.

2-color TSS – working in TSS, *use color A for forward pass, B for return pass, B for next forward pass, A for return pass. Rep from * as needed, float unused yarn up side of work.

TKS – Tunisian Knit Stitch – on the forward pass, insert the hook as if to TSS, then pass hook through to back/WS of work. Yo, draw through work and bar, leave loop on needle. Use Standard Return for all return passes.

TKS2tog – Tunisian Knit 2 together, a decrease – insert hook through next 2 vertical bars as if to TSS, then through to back of work as if to TKS. Yo, draw through work and both bars, leave loop on needle. Use Standard Return for all passes.
