Rose Trellis Shawl to Knit

So soft and drapey, this lovely spring shawl is knit from side to side and is made up of garter stitch sections, an easy-to-learn lace pattern in the trellis sections and edgings, and a center panel of lace medallion roses. This gorgeous shawl is perfect for intermediate knitters and is just the thing to make for a lovely present.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Approx 20” x 65”

MATERIALS

Yarn: Approximately 625 yds DK weight (CYCA 3, Light) rayon or other summer weight yarn. Model shown in Interlacements Zig Zag (100% rayon; 725 yards [663 meters]/227 grams): Magenta (2 skeins)
Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 17 sts and 22 rows = 4” [10 cm] in st st stitch after wet blocking

SPECIAL STITCHES

Sk2p: A double decrease; Sl 1, k2tog, pass slipped st over knit st.
SSK: A single decrease; Sl 2 stitches as if to knit, transfer sts back to left needle, k2tog through back loop.

PATTERN NOTES

Adjust the length of the shawl by adding or subtracting pattern repeats in the Trellis sections.
I used less than one quarter of the second skein of yarn.

Border

Cast on 87 stitches.
Knit 10 rows.

First Rose Section

Row 1 (WS) and all remaining WS rows except in garter st sections: K3, p across until 3 sts remain, k3.
Row 2: K5, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, (k13, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk) 4 times, k5.
Row 4: K4, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, (k11, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk) 4 times, k4.
Row 6: K5, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p, yo, (k13, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p, yo) 4 times, k5.
Row 8: K6, yo sk2p, yo, (k15, yo, sk2p, yo) 4 times, k6.
Row 10: K14, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, (k13, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk) 3 times, k14.
Row 12: K13, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, (k11, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk) 3 times, k13.
Row 14: K14, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p, yo, (k13, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p, yo) 3 times, k14.
Row 16: K15, yo sk2p, yo, (k15, yo, sk2p, yo) 3 times, k15.
Rep Rows 1-16 once, then Rows 1-9 once more.
Knit 8 rows for section divider.

First Trellis Section

Row 2 (RS): K4, *yo, sk2p, yo, k1. Rep from * across until 3 sts remain, k3.
Row 4: K4, yo, k2tog, *yo, sk2p, yo, k1. Rep from * across until 5 sts remain, yo, ssk, k3.
Rep Rows 1-4 for pattern ending with a WS row until work measures approximately 26” from cast-on edge, slightly stretched. Make note of number of rows completed to match when knitting second Trellis section.
Knit 8 rows for section divider.

Center Rose Section

Rep Rows 1-16 of First Rose Section 3 times, then Rows 1-9 once more.
Knit 8 rows for section divider.

Second Trellis Section

Rep all instructions from First Trellis section, including section divider.

Third Rose Section

Rep all instructions from First Rose section, excluding section divider.

Border

Knit 10 rows for border.
Bind off.

Finishing

Wet block to measurements shown and allow to dry completely
Weave in all ends.
