Materials:
Approx 23 g/45 yds worsted weight yarn (CYCA 4 Medium). Model shown in Patons Classic Wool Worsted in Basil. (Amazon link) (100% wool/100g/194 yds)
Knitting needles size 8/5.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Finished Size: 8” square
Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows = 4” in block pattern
Abbreviations:
K – knit
K2tog – knit 2 together
P – purl
Rep – repeat
RS – right side
Sk2p – slip 1 st purlwise, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over knit stitch (2 sts decreased)
SSk – slip, slip, knit
St – stitch
WS – wrong side
Yo – yarn over

Square:
Cast on 39 sts with longtail cast on
Rows 1 – 5: Knit.
Row 6 (RS): K4, (yo, k2tog, k3, ssk, yo, k1) 3 times, k3.
Row 7 and remaining WS rows unless otherwise noted: K3, p to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 8: K4, (k1, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, yo, k2) 3 times, k3.
Row 10: K4, (k2, yo, sk2p, yo, k3) 3 times, k3.
Rows 12, 14, 16, 18: K4, (k2tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, ssk, k1) 3 times, k3.
Rows 20 – 33: Rep Rows 6 – 19.
Rows 34 – 39: Rep Rows 6 – 11.
Knit 6 rows.
Bind off knitwise.
Finishing:
Block to 8” square.
Weave in ends.
