La Vie Boheme Pillow

This free crochet pillow pattern – La Vie Boheme – is crocheted in the round from the center out, in four colors of bulky weight yarn. Three colors are worked into the stitch pattern, which features puff stitches, and the fourth color is added in surface crochet.

Materials:

CYCA 5, Bulky yarn in four colors. Model shown in Bernat Suede-ish yarn (70% polyester/30% viscose; 179 yds; 100g), 1 skein each Cypress (A), Denim (B), Garnet (C), and Tusk (D)

Crochet hook size J/10/6.00mm

14” pillow form

Optional: If you want to have a different color on your pillow than white, you can make a quick pillow cover out of 2 fat quarters or ½ yard of fabric

 

Gauge: Not critical for this pattern, just check against your pillow form when you are finished and you can add or remove rounds if needed

 

Special Stitches:

Puff st – (yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw up a loop) 3 times, yo, draw through all loops on hook.

 

Notes:

Ch-3 counts as 1 dc at beg of rnd only.

Ch-4 counts as 1 tr.

Only a small amount of color D was used – if you want to avoid purchasing that fourth skein feel free to surface crochet in a coordination stash yarn, or use C on the inner rnd and B on the outer rnd.

Abbreviations:

Beg – beginning

Ch – chain

dc – double crochet

rnd – round

sc – single crochet

sp(s) – space(s)

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

tr – treble crochet

Pillow Front & Back: Make 2:

Begin with A and make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 12 dc

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as rnd join, 2 dc in each dc around. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. Change to B,  end off A. 24dc

Rnd 3: With B ch 3, dc in same st as rnd join, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 36 dc

Rnd 4: Ch 2, puff st in next dc, ch 2, sl st in next dc, *sl st in next dc, ch 2, puff st in next dc, ch 2, sl st in next dc. Rep from * around. Join rnd in first sl st. End off B. 12 puff sts + 24 ch-2

Rnd 5: Join C with a sc in any puff st, sc in same puff st, 3 tr in next dc of Rnd 3, *2 sc in next puff st, 3 tr in next dc of Rnd 3. Rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off C. 36 tr + 24 sc

Rnd 6: Join A with sc in the 1st of any 3 tr, sc in each of next 2 tr, hdc in each of next 2 sc, dc in each of next 3 tr, tr in next sc, ch 3, (tr in next sc, dc in each of next 3 tr, hdc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 3 tr, hdc in each of next 2 sc, dc in each of next 3 tr, tr in next sc, ch 3) 3 times, tr in next sc, dc in each of next 3 tr, hdc in each of next 2 sc. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. 4 ch-3 corners, 8 tr +24 dc +16 hdc + 12 sc

Rnd 7: Ch 4, [tr in each st to corner, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) in corner ch-3 sp] 4 times, tr in each st to end. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-4. End off A. 84 tr + 4 ch-2 sps

Rnd 8: Join B in any side st, ch 3, dc around placing 1 dc in each tr, and (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. End off B. 100 dc + 4 ch-2 sps

Rnd 9: Join C in any side st, ch 3, dc around placing 1 dc in each dc, and (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3.  116 dc + 4 ch-2 sps

Rnd 10: Ch 3, placing 1 dc in each dc, and (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. End off C. 132 dc + 4 ch-2 sps

 

Finishing:

With D, surface crochet in the top of each dc of Rnd 2. Fasten off weaving ending tail under first st so the circle appears unbroken.

 

With D, surface crochet in the top of each st of Rnd 5. Fasten off weaving ending tail under first st so the circle appears unbroken.

Weave in all ends.

Optional: Cover pillow form with fabric of your choice.

Using C, sc the two halves together, inserting the pillow form inside before you close off the fourth side.
