Christmas Wreath Crochet Dishcloth

Hang a Christmas Wreath in your kitchen with the super cute dishcloth! The 3D wreath adds visual interest AND scrubbing power 🙂 If you eliminate the hanging loop it would also make a great washcloth – a perfect quick gift, perhaps with some nice soap!

Finished Size: 8” square

Materials:

Approx 50 yds main color 100% cotton. Model shown in Peaches & Crème in the Yuletide colorway but you can use any color for the background!

Small amounts dark green (A) and red (B) for embellishments. Model shown in Peaches & Crème in Forest Green (A) and Red (B)

Crochet hook size 4.5mm or size needed to make a pleasing fabric. Gauge is not critical for this pattern but as for all dish and washcloths – tighter is better because the fabric will loosen up when wet.

Locking stitch marker

Tapestry needle

Notes:

Ch-3 counts as 1 dc.

Dishcloth is worked in the round from the center out. Mark the last st of each round to keep track!

Abbreviations:

Beg – beginning

BLO – back loop only

Ch – chain

Dc – double crochet

FLO – front loop only

Rnd – round

Sc – single crochet

Sl st – slip stitch

St – stitch

Dishcloth:

With MC make a magic ring OR ch 3 and join into a ring with a sl st in first ch.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in ring. If using magic ring, tighten up your ring now. Place marker in last st of rnd and move up with every subsequent rnd of background. 6 sc

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. 12 sc

Rnd 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 6 times. 18 sc

Rnd 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc) 6 times. 24 sc

Rnd 5:(2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc) 6 times. 30 sc

Rnd 6: (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc) 6 times. 36 sc

Do not end off MC we will come back to it soon! You can use the locking stitch marker to make sure your working loop does not unravel.

Rnd 7: Working in FLO, with A, ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each of next 2 sc, (2 dc in next sc, dc in each of next 2 dc) 5 times. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 48 dc

Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same st as rnd join, (sk 2 dc, 7 dc in next dc, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc) 8 times; on final repeat eliminate last sc and join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off A. 8 7-dc shells + 8 sc

Rnd 9: Place the working loop of MC back on hook and replace marker on last st of rnd. Working into BLO of rnd 6, (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 5 sc) 6 times. 42 sc

Rnd 10: (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc) 6 times. 48 sc

Rnd 11: (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 7 sc) 6 times WHILE AT THE SAME TIME sl st in adjacent sc of Rnd 8 (to keep the wreath flat) 8 times – once after every time you have worked into 6 sc of Rnd 10. 54 sc

Rnd 12: [Sc in each of next 4 sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, (2 dc, tr, 2 dc) in next sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 9 sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, (2 dc, tr, 2 dc) in next sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 4 sc) twice. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. 4 corner shells + 16 hdc + 34 sc = 70 sts

Rnds 13 & 14: Ch 3, dc in each st around, working 5 dc in each corner st. Join rnd with sl st in beg-ch-3. 86 sts after Rnd 13, 104 sts after rnd 14

Rnd 15: Sl st in each st around, working a ch-15 in one corner for hanging loop if desired. End off MC.

Bow:

This is a little unusual but it is made this way to keep the cut ends away from the ends of the “ribbon”.

Ch 25, placing your starting slip knot 6” – 8” from the cut end of the yarn. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, ch 25, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; end off leaving 6” – 8” for sewing.

Arrange the bow as shown in photo. Wrap the tails tightly around the center 3 – 4 times, then use the remaining tail yarn to sew the bow into place.

Weave in all ends.

  1. Question…round 11 says to slow st into sc of round 8 6 times, but there are 8 sc in round 8. Is it right that 2 of the sc will be missed? Thanks for your help!
