For the first or set-up row of your project, just use Tunisian Simple Stitch.

Moving forward, all the twisting happens on the forward pass. So instead of inserting your hook right to left under the vertical bar and through to the back of the work to draw up a loop, as you would for Tunisian Knit Stitch, you insert your hook from left to right and through to the back of the work to draw up a loop. The return pass is the standard one, chain 1 then yarn over and draw through two loops on hook until only one loop remains on your hook.

If you think about it, it is like inserting your hook between the stitch you are working on and the one before it, as opposed to TKS where you are inserting your hook between the one you are working on and the one after it.

Note that the gauge on this stitch can be very different from TKS – it tends to be far more narrow. So I would not call them interchangeable.

That is really all there is to it! And like many other Tunisian stitches you can see instantly if you are doing it correctly – the twist will show up immediately on your hook! Come back weekly so I can show you more tricks as you learn how to Tunisian Crochet.
