Proper Mitts

          

Light and lacy, these fingerless gloves offer a little bit of warmth and a lot of style! The cuff is crocheted in single crochet in the back loop only, then the body of the mitt is worked from the cuff up.

Finished size: 7” tall x 9.75” in circumference – these are stretchy so fit many people

Materials:


1 skein Fingering Weight yarn (CYCA 1, Super Fine)

Crochet hook size E/4 3.50 mm or size needed to obtain gauge

1 locking stitch marker

Gauge:  2.5 repeats (3 2-dc shells and 2 6-dc shells)  and 7.5 rows = 4” in patt st

Notes:

Shell = (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp or st

V-st – (dc, ch 2, dc) in same sp or st

Cuff:

Ch 8, leaving a tail approximately 12”.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 7 sc

Row 2: Sc BLO in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Rep Row 2 until 32 rows have been completed. Ch 1, rotate work clockwise.

Work 32 sc across adjacent long side of ribbed cuff. Join into rnd with sl st in first sc.

Begin Lace Pattern:

Rnd 1: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sc as join, [sk 3 sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc, sk 3 sc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next sc] 3 times, sk 3 sc,(dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc, sk 3 sc, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 8 shells

Rnds 2 – 4:  Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1,  sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1,  sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3.

Thumb Gusset:

Rnd 1: Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 8 shells plus 3 dc

Rnd 2: Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 9 shells

Rnd 3: Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 3 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk 3  dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 10 shells

Rnd 4: Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, place marker in ch-2 sp just made, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3.

Upper Hand:

Rnd 1: Sk 12 dc, sl st in next dc (thumb opening closed) sl st in next ch-1 sp, dc and ch-2 sp, ch 4, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] twice, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) over joining of the thumb, ch 1, dc in same ch-2 sp as beginning ch-4, ch 2, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 8 shells

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch-1 sp, each of next 3 dc, and in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3.

Rnd 3: Sl st in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 dc, 7 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 dc) 4 times, join rnd with sl st in first sc. 28 dc + 8 sc

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off. 36 sc

Thumb Edging:

Join yarn with sc in marked ch-2 sp,

Rnd 1: Sc in same ch-2 sp, sk 4 dc, 7 dc in next ch-1 sp, sk 4 dc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sk 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc (which is the last of 6 in one sp), dc2tog over same dc and next dc after join (will be the first of 6 in one sp), 2 dc in same dc, sk 2 dc, join rnd with sl st in first sc. 16 sc

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off. 

Finishing:

Using original tail, whip stitch beg and end of cuff together.

Weave in all ends.
