This 6 inch crochet square is made in single crochet rows, with the acorn cap attached separately!

Finished Size: 6’ square
Materials: Two colors worsted weight yarn. I used King Cole Fashion Aran (70% acrylic/30% wool; 100g; 219 yds) in Stone (A) and Islay (B)
Crochet hook size J/10/6.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Optional: Bobbin
Gauge:
12 sts x 12 (and a teeny bit more!) rows = 4”
Special Stitch:
ssc – spike single crochet, sc in the row below the next st

Change colors by using the new color to make the last yarn over of the last stitch of the old color.
You can make a bobbin of Color A to use on the two-color rows, or you can crochet over the A color while working the B color, tapestry crochet style.
Square:
Ch 16.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 15 sc
Rows 2 – 3: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: With A, sc in first 7 sc, with B, ssc, with A, sc in last 7 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: With A, sc in first 6 sc, with B sc in next 3 sc, with A, sc in last 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 6 – 12: With A, sc in first 5 sc, with B, sc in next 5 sc, with A, sc in last 5 sc. Ch 1, turn. End off B.
Rows 13 – 17: With A, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Edging:
Rnd 1: With A, sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner with 14 sc between the corners. Join rnd with sl st in first sc, change to B, end off A. 64 sc
Rnd 2: With B, ch 2, hdc in each sc around working (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in each corner sc. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-2. End off. 72 sc + 4 ch-2 sps
Acorn Cap:
With B, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook for stem, ch 4, (tr, 5 dc, 2 tr) in same ch as sl st. End off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finishing:
Sew Acorn Cap into place as shown in photo.
Weave in all ends.
